Box Score MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The South Carolina State women's basketball team suffered a 63-54 loss to Coastal Carolina on Friday evening at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
Bryeasha Blair scored a game-high 21 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the floor and played all 40 minutes for SC State (3-5).
Dashanique Peterson had a game- and career-high 12 rebounds and added seven points.
Coastal (4-5) scored the first basket of the game and led for most of the opening period. The Chanticleers led 19-18 going into the second quarter, but a pair of free throws by Peterson at the 7:36 mark put the Lady Bulldogs up by one, 23-22.
A three-point play by Peterson just over three minutes later extended the lead to six points (32-26). Coastal tied things up on a free throw by Rachel Gregory with 2:26 left and regained the lead 21 seconds later on a layup to for a 34-32 advantage. Neither team could score in the last two minutes of the period and the Chanticleers held just a two-point lead going into halftime.
Blair forced the sixth and final tie of the game (36-36) on a layup with 7:37 left in the third quarter. Two free throws by Coastal's Kennedy Archer gave the Chanticleers a lead they would maintain for the rest of the game.
Rachel Gregory led Coastal with 19 points, while Naheria Hamilton grabbed a team-best 11 boards.
Also scoring in double figures for SC State was
Brittany Drumgoole who finished with 12 points and added six rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Jahmia Bradley had 10 rebounds, one block and one steal.
The Lady Bulldogs head to Clemson, SC to take on Clemson University at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
