NORFOLK, Va., March 9, 2015 – Jasmine Hill led four players in double figures as No. 12 Howard upset No. 5 South Carolina State 70-57 in women's first-round action Monday afternoon at the Norfolk Scope Arena.
 
The Lady Bison advance to Thursday's quarterfinal against No. 4 Norfolk State at 2:30 p.m.
 
Hill had 20 points for the Lady Bison (4-26), while Sydni Johnson and Imani Bailey each added 14 points. Allese Morrison chipped in 10 points. Victoria Gonzales added eight points and a team-high nine rebounds.
 
Howard shot 54.0 percent (27-for-50) from the floor – including a 60.9 percent clip (14-for-23) in the second half. The Lady Bison went 7-for-10 from behind the arc and out-rebounded S.C. State 40-33.
 
S.C. State led 15-10 at the 10:55 mark of the first half after a layup from Toni Grier, before Howard answered with a 15-2 run to take a 25-17 lead with 4:46 left in the half following a 3-pointer from Bailey.
 
Howard led 34-28 at the half, thanks in part to Hill's 13 first-half points.
 
The Lady Bison led by double digits for much of the second half, including the final 14:26 of the contest.
 
SC State (16-12) shot 33.3 percent (21-for-63) from the floor for the game. Jasmine Coleman led the Lady Bulldogs with 13 points and nine rebounds, while Amber Howard added 10 points.
