MBB: SC State Falls Short To Akron 78-68

Box Score AKRON, Ohio – The South Carolina State Bulldogs had four players in double figures, but wasn't enough as the Bulldogs dropped a tough 78-68 defeat to Akron at the James A Rhodes Arena.
 
Senior forward/center Darryl led the Bulldogs with 20 points and eight rebounds, while teammates senior forward Gabriel McCray and junior guard Eric Eaves each tossed in 16 in the loss.
 
Sophomore guard Ed Stephen chipped in ten.
 
Akron was led by Isaiah Johnson made 14-of-16 foul shots and finished with a career-high 24 points to lead the Zips (10-2) to their seventh-straight win.
 
Johnson also, was 5-of 7 from the field and grabbed nine rebounds Antino Jackson had 11 points while Kwan Cheatham Jr. and Aaron Jackson added 10 points each.
 
South Carolina State (5-10) never led but cut the deficit to one point seven times in the first half. Akron pulled away with a 17-7 run late in the first and led by no less than nine in the second half.

The Bulldogs close out their Midwest swing Saturday (Jan. 2) against Miami of Ohio in Oxford. Tip-off is 3:30 p.m. (EST) and will be televised live on ESPN3.com
