Box Score CLEMSON, S.C. – Danielle Edwards scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Clemson women's basketball team to a 63-54 win over South Carolina State on Wednesday night at Jervey Gym.
SC State (2-3) took an early lead, 5-2, after a free throw by
Jasmine Coleman with 7:07 left in the first quarter. But Clemson (2-6) went on a 13-2 run to close out the quarter.
The Lady Bulldogs outscored the Tigers 20-19 in the second period, but went into halftime down 34-27. SC State started the third quarter on a 7-0 run to tie the game at 34-all at the 6:23 mark. Clemson regained the lead on a layup by Justice Wright 14 seconds later and the Tigers took a 46-40 advantage heading into the final period.
SC State got within three, 46-43, in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Bulldogs could get no closer and ultimately fell 63-54.
The Lady Bulldogs had a rough shooting night, only connecting on 17 of their 66 shot attempts. They went 3-of-24 from 3-point range and had 43 rebounds, nine turnovers and six steals.
Brittany Drumgoole scored a team-high 12 points for SC State, while
Toni Grier led the defense with seven rebounds.
SC State travels to Florida this weekend to take on Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference foes Florida A&M on Saturday and Bethune-Cookman on Monday.
