Box Score ORANGEBURG, S.C. – After being down by as many as 12 points in the second quarter, the SC State women's basketball team outscored Wofford 39-16 in the final two periods to post a 60-47 win on Monday night at the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
SC State (2-2) took a 4-0 lead to start the game on back-to-back layups by Jazzmine Johnson. A jumper by Grayson Pinholster at the 5:44 mark gave Wofford (1-6) a 5-4 lead. The Terriers closed the first quarter with a 12-9 advantage and went into halftime up 31-21.
The Lady Bulldogs went on a 10-0 run to start the third quarter and tied things up at 31-all after a layup by Jasmine Coleman with 6:58 left in the period. Wofford led 39-36 in the final seconds of the quarter, but a clutch 3-pointer by Amber Howard with 12 seconds left tied the game heading into the final 10 minutes.
SC State dominated the fourth quarter, limiting Wofford to just eight points. A free throw by Ashleigh Outler with 33 seconds left in the game gave the Lady Bulldogs their largest lead of the night (13 points, 60-47) and sealed the win.
Wofford shot 34.5 percent for the game (19-of-55), went 4-for-7 from the free-throw line, grabbed 37 rebounds, committed 23 turnovers and had 10 steals. SC State hit 19 of its 53 shot attempts from the floor, connected on 17 of 22 free throws and had 37 rebounds, 18 turnovers and 16 steals.
Kentra Washington led the Terriers with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Ashton Fleming also had 11 points.
Outler led SC State with a game-high 12 points. Brittany Drumgoole and Coleman both scored in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Toni Grier had 11 rebounds, eight points, two steals and a block.
The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action on Wednesday night when they play at Clemson University at 7 p.m. at Jervey Gym.
