STONE MOUNTAIN, GA – South Carolina State golfers Cheryl Chua and Tiana Jones finished second and third, respectively in the individual standings at the 20th Annual Women's In Golf Collegiate Championship played Saturday and Sunday (Apr. 26-27) at the Stone Mountain Golf Course.
Chua, a junior, carded a 36-hole total of (81-78) 159 on the Par-72, 5,925-yard course, three strokes behind medalist Kassandra Rivera of Texas Southern, who had a two-day total of (76-80) of 156. Jones, a senior, was one stroke behind her teammate with a 36-hole (80-80) 160 in the event. Also competing for Coach Jackie DeNova's squad was Cherie Chua, who finished 12th with a two-day total of (90-84) 174 and Kaitlynn Cortez.
The Lady Bulldogs were third overall in the team standings with a total of (361-356) 714, three strokes ahead of fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference foe Hampton, which was at (361-356) 717. The two teams had been tied for third after the opening round Saturday.
Alabama State earned the team title with a 36-hole total of (322-320) 642, followed by Texas Southern, which was at (340-349) 689. Then came SC State and Hampton, Prairie View rounded out the top five with a (481-479) 960.
