SC State Trio to Vie for PGA Golf Championship

All Three Finished in Top 10 Last Season

2014 PGA Minority Championship
PORT ST. LUCIE, FL – Three members of the South Carolina State women's golf team will be among 200 student-athletes representing more than 50 colleges and universities competing for titles at the three-day (May 9-11) 28th PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championships, beginning Friday at the PGA Golf Club. All three rounds begin daily at 7:30 a.m.

The 54-hole stroke-play Championships will consist of four divisions: NCAA Men's Division I, Men's Division II, Men's NAIA and Women's division. In addition, there is an Individual Invitational competition for men and women.

The SC State trio of senior Tiana Jones and twins Cheryl Chua and Cherie Chua, both juniors of Vancouver, Canada, will be seeking the title in the Women's Individual Invitational. Jones, an Alliance, OH native, was the medalist in the Women's Championship two years ago after carding a 54-hole total of 224 to lead the Lady Bulldogs to a second-place finish.

SC State is not competing for the team title for a second straight year. In last year's competition, all three of this year's Lady Bulldog participants finished in the top 10 of the Women's Individual Invitational. Cheryl Chua was third with a 54-hole total of 228, Jones was one stroke behind at 229 for fourth, and Cherie Chua finished sixth with a 237 total.

The competition, which will be conducted on the PGAs Ryder and Wannamaker courses, will feature a practice round on Thursday, followed by a Championship Welcome Dinner.
