STONE MOUNTAIN, GA – The South Carolina State women are tied for third place after the first round of the two-day (Apr. 26-27) Women's Intercollegiate Golf Classic, hosted by the Women In Golf Foundation, at the Stone Mountain Golf Course Saturday.
The Lady Bulldogs, who are defending champions in the event, carded an 18-hole team total of 361 to tie Hampton for third place in the field. Senior
Tiana Jones, the individual champion a year ago, carded the low round for Coach Jackie DeNova's team with an (42-38) 80. good for fourth.
Alabama State leads the field with a first-round score of 322. Texas Southern was second, at 340, followed by SC State and Hampton, both at 361. Prairie View rounded out the top five with a 481.
Alabama State's Kassandra Rivers is the individual leader after one round with an 18-hole total of (40-36) 76.
Trailing Jones for the Lady Bulldogs were
Cheryl Chua, tied for sixth, with an (42-39) 81 and
Cherie Chua with a (49-41) 90, good for 13th place in the field.
The final 18 holes get underway Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
