Box Score CLEMSON, S.C. – The South Carolina State women's basketball team outscored Clemson 41-37 in the second half, but could not overcome a 13-point first-half deficit as the Tigers posted a 66-57 win at Littlejohn Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.
SC State (7-4) led early in the first half – 8-6 after a layup by
Jazzmine Johnson with 11:52 left – but Clemson (7-5) took the lead midway through the half and went into halftime up 29-16.
The Tigers led by 17 (33-16) to start the second half. The Lady Bulldogs went on a 17-10 run to get within 10, 43-33, after a 3-pointer by
Ashleigh Outler with 10:34 left in the game. SC State closed to the gap to five (43-38) on a three-point play by
Toni Grier with 8:36 remaining.
Clemson jumped back out to a 17-point lead (58-41), but the Lady Bulldogs did not quit and cut the deficit down to nine. A 3-point play by
Kourtney Williams ended the scoring for the game and closed out SC State's rally.
Tiffany Lewis led the Tigers in scoring with 16 points on 5-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-11 from behind the arc. Nikki Dixon had a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Williams and
Amber Howard each finished with 16 points. Howard scored 13 of her points in the second half after going 4-for-8 from the floor, including 3-of-5 from long range. Williams poured in 11 second-half points.
Jasmine Coleman led SC State with seven rebounds, while Outler grabbed six.
The Lady Bulldogs have a week off for the holidays before hosting the College of Charleston at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 28.
