Box Score CLINTON, S.C. – The South Carolina State women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season, a 46-33 defeat, at Presbyterian College on Saturday afternoon. Presbyterian improved to 3-3 on the season, while SC State fell to 3-1.
The Lady Bulldogs got on the board first on a layup by
Jazzmine Johnson with 18:45 left in the first half. But Janie Miles answered on the other end 50 seconds later to tie the game at 2-all. The Blue Hose took the lead on a bucket by Keyonna Allen at the 15:30 mark and went into halftime with an 18-14 advantage.
Presbyterian led by 10, 29-19, after a pair of free throws by Aianna Kelly with 11:40 left in the game. But the Lady Bulldogs turned up the offense and got within five, 29-24, after a jumper by Brittany Dumgoole and a 3-pointer by
Amber Howard.
Jasmine Coleman hit a jumper with 8:30 left to get within three (29-26), but Presbyterian went on a 23-6 run to end the game and seal the win.
The Blue Hose shot 39.5 percent (15-of-38) for the game, had 38 rebounds, 22 turnovers and seven steals. Cortney Storey was Presbyterian's leading scorer with 10 points. Kelly had a game-high nine rebounds and added six points and two assists.
SC State made just 12 of its 59 shot attempts (20.3 percent), grabbed 35 rebounds, had 17 steals and committed 15 turnovers.
Kourtney Williams had a game-high 11 points and had six rebounds and two steals. Howard and Johnson each finished with eight points and three steals.
The Lady Bulldogs continue their road-swing with a 6 p.m. game on Tuesday at Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C.
