Box Score JACKSONVILLE, AL – Host Jacksonville State outscored visiting SC State 15-10 to start the second half to build a 52-41 lead midway the period and went on to a 73-63 victory Thursday night at Pete Mathews Coliseum.

Cabriel Duren tossed in 20 points and Kourtney Williams added 16, however, it was not enough to prevent the Lady Bulldogs from losing for the fifth consecutive time to dip to 1-7 on the season. Dayshaun Richbow came off the bench for nine points, including seven in the second half and Cherisha Floyd added 8 points for Coach Doug Robertson's squad.

The Gamecocks, who snapped a six-game losing streak, got 11 points each from Gia Banks, Miranda Cantrell, Candace Morton and Bria'unna Buckner in the victory, which lifted them to 3-9 on the season. The host, which built a 65-52 edge with 3:45 remaining, got three offensive rebounds during their run, much to the chagrin of Robertson.

The Gamecocks enjoyed only a 37-31 edge on the boards but they extra chances in the closing minutes were key.

"We played well enough to win at times, how, rebounds played a key role again," Robertson said. "They got some key follow shots down the stretch that dented our comeback. We have to play smarter and we have to rebound the ball better."

After the Gamecocks built their 13-point cushion with just under four minutes left, the Lady Bulldogs got as close as six at 65-59 on three straight free throws by Richbow but could come no closer. In a quick first half, which featured four ties and as many lead changes had the host Gamecocks ahead 37-31.

Williams had 12 points and Duren 11, including three 3-pointers to help SC State stay close. JSU scored the game's first five points but Robertson's team got 13 of the 16 to go ahead 13-8 when reserve Brittany Anderson got a short jumper with 13:18 on the first-period clock. The host used a 10-3 run to build an 18-16 advantage at the 8:51 mark.

The Bulldogs got consecutive baskets from Williams to go ahead 20-18 with 7:24 on the clock, however the Gamecocks rallied behind the shooting of reserve Bria'unna Buckner, who had nine points in the period on three 3-pointers, to build a 28-20 edge with 4:30 left.

The Lady Bulldogs closed the gap to six, 37-31 at the half. SC State will continue its four-game road trip Sunday at South Carolina in a 1 p.m. start.
