SC State Women Fall to Clemson, 88-46

Jones Comes off Bench for 18 Points

Box Score ORANGEBURG, SC – SC State got 18 points from reserve guard Mykala Jones but it was not enough as host Clemson placed four places in double figures in handing the Lady Bulldogs an 88-46 non-conference loss at Littlejohn Coliseum Saturday.

Lady Bulldog junior guard Kourtney Williams, the third-leading scorer (20. 2ppg) in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference entering the contest, was held to just 10 points by the Tiger defense in the loss, the third in a row for Coach Doug Robertson's team which fell to 1-5 on the season.

The Lady Bulldogs made just 27.6 percent of their shots in the contest, while Clemson ripped the nets at a 58.9 clip, including 60.7 percent accuracy in the opening half when the host raced to a 46-18 advantage at intermission.

Clemson also enjoyed a big edge on the boards – 45-27 – over the Lady Bulldogs, who got a team-high seven boards from Cherisha Floyd to go along with 6 points. Floyd, a 6-0 senior of Orangeburg, was one of two players to join the squad for the Clemson game. The other was 5-9 junior Lynasia Frazier, who played but did not score against the Tigers.

A disappointed Robertson said he expected a better effort from his team, which a year ago, won a 67-55 decision at Clemson. "Things were different, personnel different this time around, but I expected more from my team," he said. "Clemson shot the ball tremendously well and I take my hat off to Coach (Audra) Smith and her staff. I told her if they continue to shoot the ball that way, they would do well in the ACC.

"But, we have to play better, make better decisions. And, I believe we will. With the addition of Floyd and Frazier, we have a stronger roster and are bound to improve."

Kelly Gramlich came off the bench to hit a school-record eight 3-pointers and 24 points to lead Clemson, which won its fifth straight to climb to 6-3. Orangeburg native Nyilah Jamison-Myers came off the bench for 17 points in 15 minutes of action, while Nikki Dixon and Chancie Dunn added 12 points each in the victory.

Robertson's Lady Bulldogs will travel to the state of Alabama Tuesday for two the first of two contests – Alabama A&M (Dec. 17) at Huntsville, AL and Jacksonville State (Dec. 19) -- then face intrastate foe South Carolina (Dec. 22) at Columbia before taking a holiday break.
