ORANGEBURG, SC – The SC State women's basketball team (1-4) , idle for almost two weeks, will resume its 2013-14 schedule Saturday when the Lady Bulldogs travel to Clemson (5-3) for a 2 p.m. contest at Littlejohn Coliseum.
Coach Doug Robertson's team has not played since Nov. 30 when it dropped a 70-56 decision at the College of Charleston.
The Lady Bulldogs, 1-4, will be trying to snap a 2-game slide, while the 5-3 Tigers are going after their fifth straight win. Clemson's last outing was Dec. 12 when first-year head coach Audra Smith's team defeated UNC-Greensboro 77-71 on the road.
SC State will be led by junior
Kourtney Williams, the third-leading scorer in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference with a 20.2 mark. The 5-9 Warren, OH guard is also second on the team in rebounds with 7.2 each outing.
Mykala Jones, a 5-5 redshirt sophomore guard, is second on the team in scoring with a 9.0 mark, while 6-2 junior center
Persephone Goodwin is pulling down a team-leading 7.6 rebounds per game to go with an 8.4 scoring average.
Clemson, with a balanced-scoring attack, is led by 5-11 junior Charmaine Tay with 10.3 points per game and 6.4 rebounds each outing. Graduate Chancie Dunn, a 5-7 guard, is contributing 8.9 ppg, while Nikki Dixon, a 5-10 junior wing, is averaging 8.4 points. Junior Quinyotta Pettaway, a 6-3 junior post, is the Tigers' leading rebounder with 7.8 per contest.
The Tigers lead the overall series 13-4, however, SC State came away with a 67-55 victory last season at Clemson. Following the Clemson game, the Lady Bulldogs will travel to the state of Alabama for two contests – Alabama A&M (Dec. 17) at Huntsville, AL and Jacksonville State (Dec. 19) -- then face intrastate foe South Carolina (Dec. 22) at Columbia before taking a holiday break.
