Box Score
Baltimore, Md.— The SC State women's basketball team got off to a slow start, allowing Coppin State to jump out to 16-0 lead en route to falling 69-56 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) contest at the Physical Education Complex on the campus of Coppin State.

The lack of offensive production by SC State in the first half proved to be the determining factor in the outcome of the contest.  The Lady Bulldogs shot just 33.3 percent from the field while allowing Coppin State, (6-11, 2-2 MEAC), to shoot over 50% in the half.

The Lady Eagles led by double-digit for more than 25 minutes of the contest before SC State could get any offense going.  The Lady Bulldogs used an 11-4 run over the first seven plus minutes of the second half to cut the deficit to four, 41-37, with 12:44 remaining, but the Coppin State would not let up. The Lady Eagles used a 12-2 run of its own to gain biggest lead of the contest 16, (58-42), with 5:03 remaining in the contest.  The Lady Bulldogs would get as close as nine, 61-52, late in the contest but could not get any closer, falling 69-56.

Senior guard Tiara Knotts was the only SC State player to score in double-figures with 15.  Knotts also pulled in six rebounds with two steals for the Lady Bulldogs, who fell to 10-4 overall and 2-2 in the MEAC.  Senior guard Ashley Clarke scored eight points with eight rebounds and eight assists in the contest.  Freshman guard Mykala Jones came off the bench to contribute nine points (3-of-4 from three-point range) for SC State.

Coppin State was led by Shawntae Payne with a game-high 22 points.  Kyra Coleman had 12 points with seven rebounds while Janelle Lane dropped in 11 to round out three players in double-figures for the Lady Eagles.  Leola Spotwood pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds in the victory.

SC State will look to rebound this weekend when they open a three-game home stand.  The Lady Bulldogs will host Bethune-Cookman on Saturday, (Jan. 19) in a 4 p.m. MEAC contest.  SC State will then host Florida A&M (Mon., Jan. 21) and will close out the home stand versus Savannah State on Sat., Jan. 26.  All three games will played at the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center on the campus of SC State.
