SC State Women’s Soccer Falls to Utah Valley in the GWC Semi-final

Orem, Utah (11-4-12)—The SC State women's soccer team fell to top seed and host Utah Valley University, 5-2, in the semifinal of the 2012 Great West Conference (GWC) post season tournament. This is the second straight season that Utah Valley defeated the Lady Bulldogs in the semifinal round.

Utah Valley jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead with just over three minutes off the scoreboard. The Wolverines picked up its second goal in the 27th minute to increase their lead to 2-0 heading into intermission.

SC State began the second half a little more aggressive as it took them just 15 minutes to score. Sophomore Breia Pierce scored her first goal of the season in the 70th minute of the contest to cut the deficit to one, 1-2. It took the Lady Bulldogs just over nine minutes to score its second goal and tie the game at 2-2. Freshman Blanca Barrio, who was named to the GWC Second Team, scored off a direct kick at the 79:44 mark of the contest to knot the game. The Wolverines would not be done as they in turn scored three goals in the last eight minutes to secure the 5-2 win.

With the loss SC State finished the 2012 season at 8-12-0.
