Utah Valley Comes From Behind to Defeat SC State in Women’s Soccer

Orangeburg, S.C.—Utah Valley University comes from behind to defeat SC State, 2-1, in the Lady Bulldogs final home soccer match of the season.  With the loss, the Lady Bulldogs fall to 7-8-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the Great West Conference.  Utah Valley improved to 4-10-1 overall and undefeated in the GWC at 3-0.

SC State scored the game's first goal just 10 and half minutes into the game as Stephanie Searle shot the ball into the back of the net off an assist my Blanca Barrio.  The Lady Bulldogs defense controlled the game for just over 81 minutes before allowing Utah Valley back into the game.  The Wolverines scored both its goals within a 12 second span late in the second half.  Utah Valley's first goal game at 81:27 as Jaime Lyons scored off an assist by Lexi Robison.  Lexi Dunn managed to shoot the ball over the goal keeper from just under 45 yards out to score the team's second goal at the 81:39.  SC State had a few more chances over the course of the final eight minutes but could not capitalize, thus dropping its second straight conference game.

"I am very proud of the way we played and the amount of opportunities we created against a quality team,” said head coach Glad Bugariu.  “We did not take advantage of our numerous chances and allowed Utah Valley back into the game.”  Bugariu continued, “I am ultimately responsibility for the poor result and do not fault the player's in this loss.  I am confident that we will do everything necessary to recover and play equally as well against Delaware State on Thursday."

The Lady Bulldogs will close out the regular season on the road beginning this Thursday, Oct. 18 when they travel to Dover, Del. to take on the Lady Hornets of Delaware State.  SC State will take on NJIT (Oct. 20) and Francis Marion (Oct. 24) before heading to Utah to participate in the Great West Conference post-season tournament November 2-5.
