SC State Teams Set To Battle Howard In Pivotal MEAC Doubleheader

WASHINGTON, DC--The South Carolina State men's and women's basketball teams will wrap up its two-game road swing against Howard University in a pivotal MEAC doubleheader showdown. Tip-off for the women's contest is 5:30 p.m. with the men's following.
           Coach Doug Robertson, who enters his third season at the helm of the SC State women's (6-13 overall, 2-7 MEAC) basketball program, will take on a scrappy and talented Lady Bison team from Howard University ().
Lady Bulldogs are led in scoring by senior guard/forward Whitney Wiley with 11.9 ppg and a team-leading 40 steals.
      Newcomer and junior forward/center Fannie Goodwin adds depths in the post with 7.8 ppg and 5.8  rpg, while JUCO transfer Tracey Flowers and sophomore guard Tiara Knotts each chips in 7.0 points per contest.
              Meanwhile, South Carolina State (6-16, 2-7 MEAC) dropped a tough heartbreaking  64-53 defeat to Hampton on Saturday.  SC State is led in by senior guard/forward Darnell Porter with 11.4 ppg and 3.9 rpg, while junior guard Brandon Riley is second with 9.7 points per contest, junior's Omar Sanders and Joe Ikhinmwin and sophomore guard is chipping in a little over 7.1 per outing.
       SC State will return to action this weekend when they host Coppin State in a critical MEAC doubleheader Saturday at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. Tip-off for the women's contest is 2 p.m. with the men's following immediately.
