Box Score
Myrtle Beach, S.C.—SC State rallied from 14 down to defeat Coastal Carolina, 61-59, in a non-conference women's matchup. This was the third game of the Crescent Bank Carolinas Challenge held at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Coastal Carolina opened the game on a 10-2 run and increased its lead to 14, 24-10, with just over seven minutes remaining.  SC State's offense then came to life as used a 6-2 run over the next three minutes to cut the deficit to nine, 26-18 with 3:39 remaining.  SC State cut the margin to five, 28-23, with just over two minutes remaining before knotting the score at 30-30 heading into the half.

The teams exchanged baskets for the first three plus minutes of the second half before Coastal took the four point advantage, 38-34, with 16:49 remaining.  SC State then used a 5-0 run to take its first lead of the contest, 39-38, at the 15:18 mark.  The Lady Bulldogs remained solid over the next eight minutes increasing its lead to nine, 49-40, at the 7:48 mark of the half.  Coastal Carolina kept the margin under double-digits for the remainder of the half, pulling within three, 50-53, with just over two minutes remaining in the game.  The Chanticleers regained the lead, 56-55, off a three-point basket by Shatia Cole at the 1:02 mark.  Trinese Fox nailed two free-throws with 36.2 seconds remaining to give SC State the one point advantage, 56-57 and lead for good. The Lady Bulldogs hit four straight free-throws to increase its lead to 61-56.  Kayla Cook hit a three-pointer with two seconds remaining to pull the Chanticleers within two, 61-59, but time expired giving the Lady Bulldogs the two point victory.

“Despite getting down early, we stayed poised and made our free-throws late in the game that's how we managed to get the win,” said head coach Doug Robertson.  “The one thing we will have to figure out is how to put 40 minutes together every night and make it easier on ourselves.”

The Lady Bulldogs finished the contest with three players in double-figures led by Cabriel Duren with 20.  Tiara Knotts scored 16 and Trinese Fox dropped in 11 in the game.  Duren also led the team in rebounding with four.

SC State will host UNC-Asheville, tomorrow, Monday, Dec. 19, at 6 p.m.  Due to renovations to the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center floor (the home court of the Lady Bulldogs), the 6 p.m. contest will be played at the Jonas T. Kennedy Health and Physical Education Center (Tullis Arena) on the campus of Claflin University, which is adjacent to SC State.
