Columbia, S.C.— SC State's offense was non-existent as they dropped a non-conference match-up to intra-state Foe University of South Carolina, 66-21. With the loss the Lady Bulldogs drop to 3-6 on the season. The Gamecocks improve to 8-2 overall.
The University of South Carolina opened the game on a 21-2 run. The Gamecocks then held SC State scoreless over the next 11-plus minutes before a layup by freshman Kourtney Williams ended the drought at the 8:32 mark. University of South Carolina increased its lead to 26-6 with just over three minutes remaining before enjoying a 27 points lead at the half, 35-8.
After scoring the first five points of the second half, SC State's offense went dormant. South Carolina took complete control off the game, rattling off the next 10-of-12 points to push its lead to 47-14 by the 11:56 mark. The Gamecocks kept pressing increasing its lead to 63-16 with just under four minutes remaining in the contest. The University of South Carolina closed the game on a 6-4 run for the 66-21 victory.
Tiara Knotts and Kourtney Williams scored six points each to lead SC State in scoring. The Gamecocks was led by La'Keisha Sutton and Tina Roy with 12 each.
SC State will close out its six-game road swing this Sunday, Dec. 18, when they travel to Myrtle Beach South Carolina to take on Coastal Carolina as part of the Crescent Bank Carolinas Challenge. Tip-off for Sunday's contest is set for 5 p.m. at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
