SC State Women’s Basketball Host Claflin in 2011-12 Season-Opener

SC State Opens 2011-12 Campaign on Friday
ORANGEBURG, SC – The SC State women's basketball team will tip off its 2011-12 regular season tomorrow (Friday, Nov. 11) at home when they host neighboring Claflin University in the 2011 Garden City Basketball Classic.  The is first time since the 1996-97 season that the teams will meet.

The 2011-12 edition of SC State women's basketball has a mix of experience and youth.  The Lady Bulldogs returns six players (three starters) from a year ago: including its second leading scorer and second leading rebounder and add seven new faces.  Overall the top four returnees for SC State averaged a combined 19.7 points and 9.2 rebounds.  The team also returns its floor general, Tiara Knotts, who was ranked in the Top 10 in five categories in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).  Knotts, who will more than likely run the show for SC State once again this season, averaged 8.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and led the team in assists with 104 (4.33 per game).

SC State finished the 2010-11 campaign with a 12-17 overall record and 6-10 in the MEAC. The Lady Bulldogs will play its first three-of-four contest at home.  After hitting the road on Sunday (Nov. 13) to face Clemson, SC State will host Presbyterian on Saturday (Nov. 19) and Charleston Southern on Saturday (Nov. 26).

The Lady Bulldogs will open its Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play on the road on Saturday (Dec. 3) when they travel to Hampton, Va. to take on the Lady Pirates of Hampton University.
