SC State Women’s Volleyball Falls to Charleston Southern

Lose Snaps Five Game Win Streak

Orangeburg, S.C.—The SC State women's volleyball team saw its five-game win streak come to a halt, as they dropped a non-conference match to Charleston Southern, 3-1 (20-25, 25-14, 20-25, 20-25), in Dukes Gymnasium.  With the loss the Lady Bulldogs fall to 14-12 overall on the season.

Desire Waller continued to be productive for SC State leading all attackers with 16 kills.  Waller also had five digs and two block assists in the contest.  Despite the loss the Lady Bulldogs had three players to record double-digit digs led by E. Paige Webb with 14.  Bria Brimmer picked up 11 and Melissa Robinson had 10 digs as SC State had one of its lowest hitting percentages of the season (.115).  Peri Ligons contributed eight kills while Shabree Roberson and Tiffané Jackson each had seven kills in the loss for the Lady Bulldogs.  Roberson also put down six total blocks (3 solo-3 assists) in the match.

Charleston Southern (5-20) was led in hitting by Wynter Davis with 13 kills.  Morgan Hadden had seven kills and Ashley Higginbothem had 13 digs for the Buccaneers who picked up just its fifth win of the season.

SC State will hit the road for a four-game road-swing beginning this Friday, Oct. 28 when they travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to take on the Lady Rattlers of Florida A&M.  The Lady Bulldogs will then face Bethune-Cookman (Oct. 30), Coastal Carolina (Nov. 1) and Savannah State (Nov. 6) before returning home on Friday, Nov. 11 to host North Carolina Central in a MEAC match-up.

Note: Senior Setter Bria Brimmer was honored prior to the game for reaching 4,000 set assists in her career…The Lady Bulldogs honored members of Celebrations: an African American Breast Cancer Support Group in Orangeburg County as part of its Dig Pink game in the fight against Breast Cancer.
