SC State Women’s Volleyball Travels USC-Upstate

SC State volleyball travels to USC-Upstate, Wednesday Oct. 19
Orangeburg, S.C.—The SC State women's volleyball team will travel to Spartanburg, S.C. tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 19, to take on the Spartans of USC-Upstate in a non-conference volleyball contest.  First serve is set for 7 p.m. at the G.B. Hodge Center on the campus of USC-Upstate.

SC State will enter the contest with a 13-11 overall record including a four-game win streak.  In their last outing, the Lady Bulldogs defeated North Carolina Central, 3-0, in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference match.  Redshirt junior Shabree Roberson had an outstanding hitting day as she put down 15 kills in 18 attempts with one error for a hitting percentage of .737.  Sophomore  Desire Waller put down 12 kills with nine digs and five total blocks in the contest.  Senior Setter Bria Brimmer put up a game-high 33 set assists in the victory.  On the season, Waller and Roberson continue to lead SC State in kills and hitting averaging 3.70 and 3.52 per set, respectively.  Overall as a team SC State is averaging 11.3 kills, 10.3 service aces and 1.82 blocks per set.

USC-Upstate enters the contest at 7-13 overall.  The Spartans defeated Bethune-Cookman, 3-0, in their last outing.  Morgan Thomas finished the match with 13 kills and eight digs while Emily Sanders put up 26 set assists in the victory.  Overall Thomas and Sanders lead the teams in kills and set assist averaging 2.91 and 7.62 per set.  The Spartans are averaging 10.7 kills and 1.35 blocks per set as a team.

The Lady Bulldogs will return to the confines of home next Thursday, Oct. 25 when they host Charleston Southern.  This will be the Dig Pink game in support of Breast Cancer Awareness for the Lady Bulldogs.  First serve for the game is set for 6 p.m. in Dukes Gymnasium.  All fans are asked to wear pink in support of the effort.
