Center Fannie Goodwin
ORANGEBURG, SC – Center Fannie Goodwin tossed in 10 points and grabbed an equal number of rebounds Monday to lead South Carolina State to a 47-35 victory over visiting Delaware State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference contest at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.

Goodwin, playing in only her fourth contest, was the only player in double figures for the Lady Bulldogs who won for the third straight time to improve to 6-6 overall and 2-0 in the MEAC. Guards Trinese Fox and Whitney Wiley added eight points each in the victory.

No player reached double digits in the contest for the Lady Hornets who were paced by Deanna Harmon and Tasia Bristow with nine points each. Brittany Washington had 10 rebounds to spearhead Delaware State on the boards.

The two teams combined for only 33 first-half points as the host Lady Bulldogs led 18-15 at the break in the low-scoring affair.

Wiley scored seven of her eight points in the first 10 minutes of the second half during a 16-8 run by the Lady Bulldogs that staked them to a 34-23 advantage with 10:07 left in the game.

An 8-3 spree by Delaware State brought the visitors to within six points, 37-31, when Bristow got a layup and was fouled with 4:46 showing. She failed to complete the three-point play when her attempt from the line bounced off the front rim and Goodwin secured the rebound for the Lady Bulldogs.

SC State scored seven of the next eighth points match its biggest lead of 11 points when Goodwin's three-point play gave the host a 44-33 advantage with just 1:48 left on the clock.

The Lady Hornets got a basket from Kianna Conner at the 1:28 mark and the Lady Bulldogs' Tracey Flowers made one of two from the line and Tiara Knotts added two from the stripe for SC State for the final margin.

Delaware State led by three twice early in the contest, the last time at 11-8 with 6:46 on the first-half clock, but SC State closed out the first 20 minutes with a 10-4 run to take a 18-15 edge to the locker room.

SC State returns to action Saturday when the Lady Bulldogs travel to Baltimore, MD to meet Morgan State in the first game of an MEAC doubleheader beginning at 2:30.
