SC State Volleyball Goes 0-3 at the North Carolina Central University Tournament

Gleaton was named to the NCCU All-Tournament Team
Orangeburg, SC—The South Carolina State women's volleyball team went 0-3, this weekend at the North Carolina Central University Tournament. The tournament, which was held Friday-Saturday, Sept. 24-25, was contested at the McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium on the campus of North Carolina Central.
               In its first match of the tournament, SC State (4-14) lost a two set to none lead as they fell to North Carolina Central, 2-3 (25-20, 25-14, 19-25, 22-25, 10-15). Despite the loss, the Lady Bulldogs had four players finish with double-digit kills led by Jarne Gleaton with 15. Paige Webb had 14, Shabree Roberson 13 and Desire Waller recorded 12 kills respectively. Defensively, SC State had three player's record double-digit digs as Webb picked up 18, Melissa Robinson 14 and Gleaton 10. Setter Bria Brimmer put up 52 set assists for the match.
Belinda Behncke-Biney led all attackers with 20 kills for North Carolina Central. Maritsann Sinclair put up 10 kills and Raven King had 14 digs for the Lady Eagles in the victory.
            The Lady Bulldogs opened up Day Two of the tournament with a loss to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, 3-0, (16-25, 1225, 21-25).
            Jarne Gleaton had seven kills and Bria Brimmer recorded a double-double with 15 assists-10 digs in the loss.
            Maline Vaitai, Samantha Chukwura and Zoe Bowens each had eight kills to lead UMES in the win.
                In its final match of the tournament, SC State fell to East Tennessee State, 0-3, (14-25, 20-25, 21-25). Webb put down seven kills with seven digs to lead the Lady Bulldogs. Brimmer put up 19 set assists while Desire Waller recorded five block assists in the loss.
            Alysa Long, Megan Devine and Erin Ryan each had eight kills to lead East Tennessee. Whitney Cogburn recorded a game-high 33 assists in the victory.

                SC State will return to action, Tuesday, Sept. 28 when they travel to Statesboro, Ga. to face Georgia Southern University.

Tournament Notes:  Senior Jarne Gleaton was named to the All-Tournament Team...For the weekend sher recorded 27 kills with 15 digs.
