Clinton, SC—The SC State women's volleyball team dropped a hard fought non-conference match to Presbyterian, 3-2, (19-25, 25-22, 26-24, 25-14, 19-17). With the loss SC State falls to 4-12 overall while Presbyterian improved to 6-7 on the season.
The First Set of the match belonged to Presbyterian as they held SC State to a .000 hitting percentage and allowing just seven kills en route to the 19-25 Set victory. The Lady Bulldogs bounced back strong in set two hitting .276 and recording 12 kills on its way to capturing Set Two, 25-22.
After a 10 minute intermission, SC State maintained its intensity, jumping ahead of Presbyterian, 12- 8 to begin Set Three. Presbyterian put together a 10-3 run to jump ahead 17-15 in Set Three teams exchanged points before SC State put together a mini three-point run at 17-20 to tie the game at 20 all. The teams exchanged the lead over the next four points before the Lady Bulldogs scored the next two to take Set Three, 26-24 and a two set to one lead heading into the fourth set.
The teams opened the Fourth Set going point-for-point with no one team taking more than a two point lead over the first 10 points. Presbyterian put together a 9-2 run to jump ahead by six, 18-12. The Blue Hose would go on to score the next seven-of-nine points to take Set Four, 25-14 and force a deciding Set Five.
SC State led 8-7 on the changeover. Neither team could take total control of Set Five, exchanging points until Presbyterian took a two point lead at 11-9 and forcing a SC State timeout. After the timeout, the Lady Bulldogs scored two straight points to tie the game at 11. Presbyterian College went on to capture Set Five 19-17 and the Match 3-2.
Senior Jarne Gleaton and sophomore Paige Webb recorded double-digits kills for the SC State with 15 and 11 respectively. The Lady Bulldogs also had two players to record double-digit digs as redshirt sophomore Melissa Robinson had 15 and Webb picked up 13. Junior Bria Brimmer continued to run an effective offense with 44 set assists in the Match.
Presley Mabrey led all attackers with 28 kills and Kilee Ruppe put up 54 assists for Presbyterian in the victory.
SC State will have two days off before traveling to Durham, N.C. this weekend (Sept. 24-25) to participate in the North Carolina Central University Tournament.
