ORANGEBURG, SC – Senior guard Whitney Wiley scored 22 points and had five steals to lead South Carolina State to a 66-32 win over visiting North Carolina Central Saturday at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.

Wiley was the only Lady Bulldog in double figures in the victory, which snapped a two-game losing streak for Coach Doug Robertson's team. Freshman Cherisha Floyd of Orangeburg followed Wiley in the scoring for SC State with nine points, all in the opening half, and five rebounds. Center Paris Alston and forward Tracey Flowers added seven points each.

Reserve Mary Baker came off the bench for a team-high seven rebounds and also added five points as the Lady Bulldogs improved to 2-3 on the season.

NC Central was paced by senior Jori Nwachukwu with 12 points and seven rebounds. Shanise Blanks added nine points and Chasidy Williams six in the loss, while backup J'Mia Pollock had a game-high rebounds but not points for the Lady Eagles who fell to 1-6 on the season.

The Lady Bulldogs, behind Floyd's nine first-half points, took a 34-23 lead at the half. Robertson's team started the final 20 minutes with an 18-5 run to go ahead 52-28 with 9:43 left on a layup by Alston following a steal.

The Lady Eagles, who scored just nine points in the final half, never mounted a challenge after that.
