SC State Historic Season Comes to a Close

Lady Bulldogs Falls to North Dakota in GWC Semi-Final

Lopez recorded three points on the game (1 goal-1 assist)

Houston, Texas (Nov. 6)—The SC State women's soccer team closed out another historic season with a 3-2 lost to the University of North Dakota in the semi-final round of the Great West Conference tournament.

Despite being down early in the contest SC State was resilient in their efforts. The Lady Bulldogs fought back from a late 3-0 deficit late in the game to pull within one.

“The final result was not indicative of the game based on the number of opportunities each team had to score,” said head coach Glad Bugariu. “Soccer is a bitter game; regardless of how many changes you create, the only number that matters is the one on the scoreboard at the end.”

SC State scored their first goal of the game at the 73:58 mark when Briana Lopez scored off an assist by Alejandra Chirino. In less than four minutes, senior Brooke Ehinger scored off an assist by Lopez at the 77:37 mark to close the gap but the Lady Bulldogs could not get any closer falling in the match, 3-2.

Bugariu added “We should of made more of the chances we had. North Dakota was a very intelligent team and took advantage of every opportunity we allowed.”

Despite the lost, SC State proved that they are well on their way to building a premiere soccer program. “We should not sulk (over the lost), but celebrate our overall achievements this year,” says Bugariu. “We took another step forward as a program and that is something every player and coach should be proud.”

SC State closed out another historic season as they eclipsed the record they set a year ago by three. The Lady Bulldogs ended the 2010 season 13-6-1 overall and 6-0-0 in Great West Conference East Division.
