CHARLESTON, S.C. — South Carolina State women's soccer continues its road swing Thursday when the Lady Bulldogs take on The Citadel in a 5 p.m. match at Washington Light Infantry Field.
The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
South Carolina State (0-3) enters the contest looking to break into the win column under second-year head coach
Andrew Richardson. The Lady Bulldogs opened the season with home losses to Southern Utah and Elon before falling 8-0 at Mercer on Sunday.
Thursday's contest marks another challenging road test for SC State during an early-season stretch that features several matches away from Orangeburg. Following The Citadel, the Lady Bulldogs are scheduled to visit Wofford on Sunday and the College of Charleston on Sept. 3.
The Citadel enters Thursday's matchup with momentum after earning a 1-0 road victory over Kennesaw State on Aug. 21. Samantha Grantham scored the game-winning goal in the 61st minute, while goalkeeper Zoe Santos recorded six saves to preserve the shutout. The victory improved The Citadel to 1-1-1 on the season.
The Citadel earned a 1-0 victory over South Carolina State in last season's meeting, scoring the deciding goal in the 78th minute.
SC State will look to generate offensive opportunities while continuing to develop a roster that returned just nine players from last season. Goalkeeper
Jada Gittings is among the key returners after starting 15 of 16 matches a year ago and recording 47 saves.
