HOOVER, Ala. — South Carolina State University claimed its first road win of the season Friday afternoon, defeating University of Alabama at Birmingham 4-1 at the Hoover Met.
The Bulldogs (1-4) secured the doubles point and won three singles matches to clinch the nonconference victory over the Blazers (2-5).
After dropping the No. 1 doubles match, SC State responded with wins at Nos. 2 and 3 to take the early 1-0 lead.
Iliyas Muratuly and Andril Borodatiuk evened the doubles tally with a 6-2 win over Conor Flynn and Kaustubh Holcomb, before
Julius Augunas and
Bastian Zamora sealed the point with a 6-4 victory against Hoan Mouret and Tomas Tischner
In singles play, the Bulldogs won three completed matches in straight or three sets to secure the team win.
Mikalai Bankou delivered a key result at No. 1 singles, outlasting Juan Pablo Valdez 7-5, 7-6 (7-4).
Novak Novakovic followed with a hard-fought 2-6, 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 win over Ondrej Valek at No. 2. Borodatiuk added the clinching point at No. 5 singles with a 6-4, 6-1 decision against Holcomb

UAB's lone point came at No. 4 singles, where Flynn defeated Zamora 6-0, 6-1

Two matches went unfinished after the Bulldogs secured the fourth point. Tischner led Muratuly in the third set at No. 3 singles, while Mouret and
Cagan Efe Tufekci were tied in the second set at No. 6 .
The match marked SC State's first victory of the spring and provided momentum as the Bulldogs continue their road swing.
