ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Fresh off its sixth consecutive Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship, the South Carolina State men's tennis team has earned another significant accolade, being ranked No. 9 in the nation's regional rankings by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
The Bulldogs continued their dominance during the 2026 season, capturing the program's 21st MEAC championship and securing the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament.
South Carolina State joined an impressive group of programs in the ITA regional rankings. Wake Forest claimed the top spot, followed by South Carolina, NC State, Clemson, North Carolina, Duke, Charlotte, Gardner-Webb, South Carolina State and Coastal Carolina.
The ranking adds to an already successful season for the Bulldogs, who have established themselves as one of the premier programs in the MEAC and among the top teams in the region.
The ITA administers collegiate tennis rankings designed to identify and track the top men's and women's tennis teams and players across NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, CCCAA and wheelchair tennis competition.
Founded in 1956 by legendary UCLA men's tennis coach J.D. Morgan, the ITA serves as the governing body of college tennis. The organization oversees men's and women's varsity tennis at all collegiate levels and works to promote sportsmanship, education and the continued growth of the sport throughout the collegiate ranks.
South Carolina State's placement in the regional top 10 further highlights the program's sustained success and continued rise on the national stage.
