ORANGEBURG, S.C. — The South Carolina State University Department of Athletics and The STATE Club mourn the passing of David E. Mozie, a beloved supporter of Bulldog athletics and a valued member of the SC State family. Mozie passed away Oct. 11, 2026, at the age of 77.

Born Jan. 2, 1949, Mozie was a cherished member of The STATE Club, an organization dedicated to supporting South Carolina State University athletics and its student-athletes. His connection to the university and its athletic programs reflected the pride, loyalty and commitment that define the Bulldog community.

Mozie was also the father of Dr. Dante Mozie, an instructor of journalism in the Department of English and Communications at South Carolina State University.

The SC State Department of Athletics extends its heartfelt condolences to the Mozie family, friends and loved ones during this difficult time. His passing is a tremendous loss to those who knew him and to the extended Bulldog family.

As the university community remembers Mozie, his connection to SC State Athletics and The STATE Club will remain an important part of the legacy he leaves behind.

Memorial Service Arrangements
A memorial service celebrating the life and legacy of David E. Mozie will be held Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Second Calvary Baptist Church, 1110 Mason Road, Columbia, SC 29203.
In recognition of Mozie's connection to South Carolina State University, the family respectfully requests that those attending the memorial service wear garnet or blue attire to honor his memory and his ties to the university.

The Mozie family kindly requests that members of the South Carolina State University community consider making a memorial donation in honor of David E. Mozie to either of the following organizations:

• Alzheimer's Association
• Parkinson's Foundation
