Bulldogs Held Off Late Rally From Eagles

BALTIMORE, MD--Jayden Johnson scored 18 points and Noah Treadwell added 19 as South Carolina State held off Coppin State 74–72 on Monday night in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) men's basketball action inside the Physical Education Complex Arena.

South Carolina State (3–15, 2–1 MEAC) shot 51.2% from the field and went 9 of 17 from 3-point range, including a blistering 7 of 10 in the second half to withstand a late Coppin State rally. The Bulldogs led for more than 35 minutes and built a 12-point first-half advantage before settling for a 28–23 halftime lead.

Coppin State (3–17, 1–2) surged late behind hot perimeter shooting, hitting nine of its 10 made 3-pointers after the break. Hassan Perkins scored a team-high 16 points while Khali Horton and Torrin Andrews each added 12. The Eagles pulled within one possession multiple times in the final minute but could not draw even.

Treadwell hit six 3-pointers for South Carolina State and Johnson went 6 of 10 from the field while adding five assists. Cameron Clark posted nine points and nine rebounds and the Bulldogs' bench contributed 27 points.

Coppin State out-rebounded South Carolina State 33–29 and converted 26 of 35 free throws, but the Bulldogs turned 14 Eagle turnovers into 18 points and outscored Coppin 7–0 in fast-break points.
