BALTIMORE — South Carolina State used a balanced offensive effort and timely shooting to edge Morgan State 62–59 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Hill Field House.
Iemyiah Harris scored a team-high 19 points and knocked down four 3-pointers to lead the Lady Bulldogs, who improved to
5-13 overall and 2-1 in the MEAC.
Angie Juste-Jean added 11 points off the bench, while Feliah Greer posted nine points and nine rebounds.
South Carolina State hit 50% from the field and led by as many as 13 in the second quarter before Morgan State rallied to pull within one possession multiple times in the final minutes. The Bears (2-17, 1-2 MEAC) were led by Ja'la Bannerman's 19 points and Tiyanna James' 12.
The Lady Bulldogs outscored Morgan State 30–20 in the paint and converted 14 second-chance points behind a 31–34 rebounding margin. SCSU won despite 23 team fouls, while Morgan State made 20 of 28 free throw attempts to stay close.
After entering the fourth quarter tied 45–45, South Carolina State opened the period with a 7–2 run and held the lead the rest of the way. Harris knocked down a key jumper with under two minutes left, and the Bulldogs' defense forced the Bears into a late turnover to help seal the win.
NEXT UP: South Carolina State returns home next week for another conference test with Norfolk State in a 2 p.m. start inside Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
