ORANGEBURG, SC – The South Carolina State track and field teams have qualified over 30 competitors in a combined 20 events for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships scheduled for May 15-17 at Norfolk, VA.
The Howard women and Norfolk State men will both be pursuing their fourth consecutive outdoor championship in the competition which gets underway Thursday at 1 p.m. while Friday's events begin at 9 a.m. Saturday's finals, which start at 10 a.m., will be streamed live on ESPN+ beginning at 1 p.m.

Approximately 20 men and 11 women earned qualifying marks for the championships for Coach Donald Cooper's teams, which will join seven other league schools in the competition at William "Dick" Price Stadium.
Among the SC State competitors expected to earn points are four who are ranked number one in the MEAC in their respected event: Michael Hopkins in the Decathlon (6550 pts.),
Robert Carter in the men's javelin (59.37m, 194-9 ft.), Areyanna Scott in the women's javelin (41.69m, 136-9 ft.) and
Sydney Cooper in the women's Heptathlon (41.49 pts.). Hopkins is also number two in the men's pole vault (4.90m, 16-0.75 ft.).
Others events SC State is expected to do well in are the men's 110m hurdles, where the Bulldogs' Alexander Hollimon (14.11) and Bryce Wilson (14.13) are ranked 3-4; the Decathlon, where teammates Isaiah Johnson (6250) and Jyierre Edwards (4430) trail Hopkins; the men's long jump, triple jump and 4x400m relay; and the women's 400m hurdles, high jump and the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams.
