ORANGEBURG, SC—It was as team effort, five Bulldog scored in double-figures as South Carolina State knocked off top-ranked Norfolk State, 91-88, Saturday (March 2) inside Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center in a pivotal MEAC showdown on "Senior Day".
South Carolina State improves to 16-12 overall, 9-3 MEAC, while Norfolk State falls to 20-9 overall, 10-2 in the league. The Bulldogs currently in 2
nd place is one game behind the leader NSU for the top spot with two games remaining in the regular season.
This game posted 18 lead changes between the two teams with sophomore forward
Drayton Jones leading the way with 20 points and eight (8) rebounds along with two (2) block and (2) steals.
Senior forward
Davion Everett recorded the games only double-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds and five assists on the day. Teammates
Mitchell Taylor had an amazing night with 18 points connecting (6-of-7) from behind 3-point range.
Wilson Dubinsky added 12 points and
Omar Croskey with 11 points and four (4) steals.
South Carolina State dominated in several categories including second chance points (14-8), bench points (47-21), and rebounds 27-31.
NEXT UP: South Carolina State close out regular season play on home Thursday (Mar.6) versus North Carolina Central inside Smith-Hamond-Middleton Memorial Center. Women tipoff at 5:30 pm, following by the men in a 7:30 pm contest.
