Bulldogs Winning Streak Continues With Routing Of Coppin State

ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State men's basketball team captured their fourth (4th) straight win to improve to 7-2 at home in an 87-57 routing of Coppin State Monday (Feb.17) inside Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.

Senior forward Davion Everett led the way with a game-high 23 points and six (6) rebounds along with Drayton Jones 19 points, two (2) blocks, three assists in the win.

Freshman Jayden Johnson added that extra spark to the backcourt 13 points and three rebounds, while sophomore Mitchell Taylor produced another solid performance with 10 points and two (2) steals.

The Bulldogs dominated in every category including points in the paint (52-26), points off turnovers (24-10), second chance points (13-12), fast break points (26-1), bench points (47-21) and rebounds 38-29.

SCSU defense was at its best all season forcing a game-high 23 turnovers versus the Eagles.

South Carolina State improves to 13-12 overall, 6-3 in the MEAC, while Coppin State falls to 4-20 overall, 2-7 in the league.

NEXT UP: South Carolina State returns to action on the road over the weekend when they head up north to take on Delaware State Saturday (Feb. 22), followed by a wrap up with UMES on Monday (Feb. 24) in Princess Anne, MD.
