Men's Cross Country

Cross Country Teams to Compete at MEAC Championships

ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State will be among eight schools competing at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) 2025 Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 1, at WakeMed Park (201 Soccer Park Drive) in Cary, N.C. Live coverage will air on ESPN+ beginning at 11:00 a.m. ET.

Championship action opens with the women's 5,000m race at 11:00 a.m. ET, followed by the men's 8,000m race at 12:00 p.m. ET. The top 15 finishers in each race will earn All-MEAC honors. The ESPN+ broadcast will feature live race coverage, interviews, and post-race awards and trophy presentations.

Leading the way for the Coach Donald Cooper men's squad will be transfer and junior Tinashe Bure and graduate Andrew Latimer. The women will be paced by sophomore Nia Singleton, also a transfer.

Norfolk State's men enter as the reigning five-time MEAC champions, capturing titles in 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. The Spartans return key contributors Basil Koech and standout runner Ian Kimutai.

On the women's side, Norfolk State looks to defend its 2024 championship, the program's fourth title in the last five years. The Lady Spartans bring back a strong core, led by Abigail Chebet, Sonia Koech, and Jahmei Wyatt.

ABOUT SC STATE ATHLETICS
South Carolina State University is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level intercollegiate athletic program. The university currently fields teams in 14 sports: women's volleyball, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's indoor track & field, softball, men's and women's outdoor track and field, women's soccer and football with all teams competing in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), except for women's soccer.
