Men’s Tennis Knock Off Georgia State 4-2

ATLANTA, GA—The South Carolina State men's tennis team captured their first win ever in school history in a 4-2 upset over Georgia State Friday (Jan. 24) at Peachtree Corners, Ga./Lifetime Fitness. 

South Carolina State improves to 1-1 overall, while Georgia State falls to 1-3 on the season.

"It was a great win for our program beating a talented Georgia State team, "said head coach Hardeep Judge. "Its still early in the season we will keep improving and correct some mistakes moving forward.

The Bulldogs captured the doubles point early with 7-5, 7-5 wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spot.

In singles action, Mikalai Bankou def. Baran Soyler 7-5, 5-7, 6-0 at the No.1 spot; at the No. 3 spot Aissa Benchakroun def. Aryan Jit Singh 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 and at the No. 5 spot Julius Augunas def. Gabriel Datel 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 respectively.

South Carolina State University is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level intercollegiate athletic program. The university currently fields teams in 14 sports: women's volleyball, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's indoor track & field, softball, men's and women's outdoor track and field, women's soccer and football with all teams competing in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), except for women's soccer.
