ORANGEBURG, SC—South Carolina State Vice President of Athletics Dr. Nathan Cochran announced the hiring of two additions to the athletic administration staff .
Clayton Simmons, Jr. will serve as the Assistant AD for Compliance and Student Development, while Fayth Kemp will assume the role as Assistant AD for Media and Game Day Coordinator.
Simmons, Jr. comes to South Carolina State after serving three years as the Associate Athletics Director and Title IX Compliance Coordinator at Xavier University in Louisiana (XULA). As Assistant AD for Compliance and Student Development, he will be responsible for overseeing compliance efforts, student-athlete development, and monitoring academic progress to foster a culture of integrity, academic excellence, and personal growth among student-athletes.
While at XULA, his duties consisted of internal operations, including academics, game day management and oversight of multiple sports teams. Prior to Xavier, he spent three years at Kentucky State University in Frankfort as the Athletics Compliance Coordinator and Admissions Recruiter.
Simmons is a native of North Charleston, S.C., and a 2014 graduate of Kentucky State. Simmons received a master's in recreation and sports administration from Western Kentucky University in 2017, and a graduate certification in intercollegiate compliance from WKU in 2019. Simmons is pursuing a doctorate in higher education adult leadership from Morehead State University.
The former KSU running back, and slot receiver is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
Kemp comes to SC State after serving as the Assistant Director of Marketing and Special Projects at Florida A&M University for the past two years, where she spearheaded the oversight and execution of fan engagement, game day activities, and in-game promotions.
In her role, she also served as the Internship Coordinator where she coordinated and managed internship programs, ensuring smooth operation and alignment with organizational goals. She was also Communication and Sports Information Coordinator, where she managed and coordinated media relations, including press releases, game summaries, and interviews, along with the creation and maintenance of digital content, including website updates, social media campaigns, and multimedia production.
In her role as Bulldog Assistant AD for Media and Game Day Coordination, she will coordinate all aspects of gameday operations, including pre-game activities, halftime entertainment, in-game promotions, and post-game ceremonies. She will also assist with media relations and content creation duties with the Office of Strategic Communications.
A native of Houston, TX she graduated from Florida A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a minor in Pre-Law. She is currently working toward her master's in Sports Management at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Kemp is a member of several professional and civic organizations, including Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW).
