ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State, coming off an impressive outdoor track season, will be among eight (8) Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) schools battling for the league's Outdoor Track and Field Championship set for May 6-8 at Dick Price Stadium in Norfolk, VA.
The competition gets underway Monday at 1 p.m. Tuesday's events start at 9 a.m. and Wednesday's finals begin at 10 a.m.
The host Spartans and Howard have been the dominant teams the last two seasons and are favored once more, however, Coach Donald Cooper's teams made strides last season and are expected to be competitive. SC State student-athletes sit atop the MEAC rankings in six events and has a total of 29 other entrants ranked among the top eight in several others.
In the women's competition, Areyanna Scott ranks number one in the javelin (43.33m) and
Jourdon Cooper leads the way in the women's heptathlon (3920 pts.).
Dexter Ratliff is ranked first in both the discus (54.73m) and hammer throw (54.35m) in the men's division, while
Jacob Alexander is number one in the 800 meters (151.93) and
Kenton George leads the way in the decathlon (6056 pts.).
