South Carolina State University Track and Field held its inaugural Sharonda Coleman-Singleton Classic Saturday, April 13 at the Lorry H. Dawkins Track Facility.
The SC State women's team was led by
Angelica Frederick who finished first in the 200-meter dash and second in the 100-meter dash. She was also a member of the 4x100 meter relay team that finished second and the 4x400 meter relay team that finished first overall. Other top finishers for SC State included:
Maya Smith (third 200-meter dash),
Debrielle Williams (first 800-meter run),
TyQwasia Williams (first 400-meter hurdles),
Kennedy Spears (first high jump),
Jourdon Cooper (first pole vault),
Sydney Cooper (second pole vault) and Areyanna Scott (second javelin).
Other top local women finishers included: Claflin's Malika Coutain (second 400-meter dash), Claflin's Madison McDonald (second 1500-meter run), Claflin's Jonnica Fuller, Coutain, Pheijana Burnside and Jasmine Young (third 4x400 relay), Claflin's Marlayna McBride (third high jump) and Voorhees' Jah'lia Evans (first triple jump).
The SC State men's team were led by Jovan Brooks who finished first in the 400-meter dash and
Isaiah Campbell who finished first in the 800-meter run. Brooks was also part of the 4x400 relay team that finished first overall. Other top finishers for SC State included:
Andrew Latimer (third 1500-meter run),
Jonathan Williams (second 110-meter hurdles), Thomas White (third high jump) and
Dexter Ratliff (first hammer throw).
Other top local men finishers included: Voorhees' Damarion Alexander (second 100 meter dash), Claflin's Chander Anderson (second 400 meter dash), Claflin's Reginal Gore (second 1500 meter run), Claflin's Marcus Thomason (first 400 meter hurdles), Voorhees' Tumari Collins, Ricardo Lewis, Melvin Hunter and Alexander (first 4x100 meter relay), Claflin's Jonathan Flemister, Jaevon Riley, Thomason and Gore (third 4x400 meter relay), Claflin's Jocolbi Morgan (first high jump and first long jump), Denmark Tech's Jaqcorey Melton (second high jump) and Voorhees' Michael Tatnall (first men's triple jump).
