Women’s Tennis On The Road At Elon

ELON, N.C. – The South Carolina State women's tennis team (1-1) look to capture their first road win of the season Friday (Feb. 9) versus Elon (1-3) at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center in a 2 p.m. start time.

HOW TO FOLLOW
  • Friday's match against South Carolina State will begin with doubles at 2 p.m. and conclude with singles shortly after.
THE MATCHUP
  • Elon leads the all-time series against South Carolina State 4-1 with wins in each of the last four meetings.
  • The Phoenix won the last matchup between the teams 5-2 on April 6, 2019. 
  • All five matches between Elon and South Carolina State have been played at Elon.
LAST TIME OUT:  South Carolina State dropped an 2-5 decision to Charleston Southern, meanwhile Elon lost a tight 4-3 decision on Jan. 28 on the road against North Florida, its second of two weekend matches in Jacksonville.

SCOUTING SOUTH CAROLINA STATE
  • The Bulldogs are coming off a 12-8 season and are the defending MEAC Tournament champions. They went 6-0 in conference matches and advanced to the NCAA Tournament, where they lost to North Carolina State in the opening round. 
  • South Carolina State enters Friday's match with a 1-1 record on the season. 
  • The Bulldogs opened their season with a 7-0 home win over Francis Marion on Jan. 28 but lost 5-2 at Charleston Southern on Feb. 1.
  • Last season, South Carolina State went 2-5 on the road and 7-7 in matches played away from home. 
  • Hind Semlali and Nalanda Silva lead the Bulldogs with two singles victories apiece this season. 
  • South Carolina State is led by head coach Hardeep Judge in his 23rd season and amassed over 600-career wins and 34 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championships between both the men and women teams.
ABOUT THE PHOENIX
  • Elon is coming off a 16-7 season that included a trip to the semifinals of the CAA Tournament. 
  • The Phoenix returns five players from last year's squad, headlined by Sibel Tanik and Lizette Reding, who both earned All-CAA honors in singles and doubles last season. Tanik and Reding formed a dynamic doubles duo, going 12-6 in the No. 1 position, and combined for 24 singles victories in the top three spots. 
  • Elon is off to a 1-0 start at home in 2024 after winning its home opener against Longwood at Piedmont Indoor Tennis in Greensboro. 
  • The Phoenix finished last year's regular season with an 11-2 record in home matches, which included a 7-1 mark at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

South Carolina State return to action on Saturday, Feb. 17th at home versus Tennessee State in a non-conference matchup at the Hardeep Judge Tennis Center. First serve is 1 p.m.
