ORANGEBURG, SC—Kamron Hobbs nailed the game winning jumper with 0:03 seconds remaining to lift Morgan State to an, 70-72, victory over South Carolina State Saturday (Feb. 3) in MEAC Men's Basketball action inside Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
South Carolina State falls to 7-15 overall, 3-3 in the MEAC.
Junior guard
Michael Teal led the Bulldogs with a team-high 15 points, while freshman guard
Mitchell Taylor added nine points.
Davion Everett,
Raquan Brown and
Jordan Simpson all contributed eight points respectively, while Everett grabbed a game-high nine rebounds in the loss.
A 3-pointer by
Atiba Taylor gave SCSU 11-point advantage, 60-49 at the 9:43 mark in the second-half. The Bears sparked an 11-4 run off a layup by Will Thomas to tie the game 64-64 all with 4:04 remaining in regulation.
Brown tied the game 70-70 with a tip-in and 0:08 seconds left on the clock. Hobbs running jumper with 0:03 seconds left on the clock gave Morgan State a 72-70 victory over host South Carolina State.
Morgan State was led by Will Thomas with a game-high 28 points, while Amahrie Simpkins added 13 points and nine rebounds in the win.
"This was a tough loss and I have to give Morgan State credit they made shots down the stretch and came out on top," said head coach
Erik Martin. "We have to pick out heads up and get ready for Coppin State on Monday."
NEXT UP: South Carolina State will take on Coppin State Monday (Feb. 5
th) at home in a 7: Tip-off is 7:30 p.m. immediately following the women's contest in a 5:30 p.m. start.
