Bulldogs Late Rally Surge Comes Up Short Against Howard

ORANGEBURG, SC—Four Bulldogs scored in double figures with Davion Everett tossing in a team-high 15 points and grabbing 8 rebounds, but it wasn't enough as South Carolina State dropped a tough 78-82 defeat to visiting Howard Monday (Feb.27th) at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.

Rakeim Gary added 16, while Cameron Jones and Latavian Lawrence each scored 14 points respectfully in the loss. Lawrence also finished with a teams second best seven rebounds.

South Carolina State falls to 5-24 overall, 2-11 in the MEAC, while Howard improves to 18-12 overall, 10-3 in the league.

The Bison were led by graduate guard Jelani Williams with a game-high 23 points and seven rebounds.

Next up: South Carolina State returns to action on Thursday (March 2nd) versus North Carolina Central in an MEAC doubleheader with the women beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men in an 7:30 p.m. start at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.

2023 MEAC TOURNAMENT: The 2023 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) men's and women's basketball tournament is scheduled for March 8-11, 2023, at the Norfolk Scope Arena in Norfolk, Va. The annual MEAC Basketball Tournament moved to Norfolk in 2013 after spending the previous four years in Winston-Salem, N.C. from 2009 through 2012.
