Norfolk, VA - The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) introduces the 2022-23 All-MEAC Preseason Men's and Women's Basketball Teams, as voted on by the MEAC Basketball Coaches and the Sports Information Directors. Rahsaan Edwards. Both men's and women's teams were predicted to finish seventh.
Alexander, the 2021-22 MEAC Player of the Year, led the conference in scoring last season with an average of 15.8 points per game. She also ranked second in the league in free throw percentage (.791), fourth in rebounding (7.1 per game) and seventh in field goal percentage (.401). A BoxToRow Second Team All-American last season, Alexander was named MEAC Player of the Week three times. She dropped at least 30 points in a game three times in 2021-22 (with a career high of 35 against Delaware State), and she had eight 20-point games and four double-doubles.
Howard, which won its first MEAC Basketball Tournament title since 2001 last season, was selected as the preseason favorite, racking up eight of a possible 16 first-place votes and notching 119 points. Norfolk State (four first-place votes) and Coppin State (two first-place votes) were picked second and third, respectively, and Morgan State was picked to finish fourth.
Maryland Eastern Shore (two first-place votes), North Carolina Central, South Carolina State and Delaware State rounded out the predicted order of finish.
Bryant, the reigning MEAC Player of the Year, was also named the BoxToRow National Player of the Year after leading the Spartans to their second straight MEAC Tournament title, on top of the regular-season crown and a 24-win season. The MEAC Tournament Outstanding Performer for the second straight season, Bryant was second in the MEAC in scoring (16.7 ppg), third in field goal percentage (.432) and 3-pointers made (57), sixth in assists (3.2 apg) and eighth in assist/turnover ratio (1.1).
Two-time defending MEAC champion Norfolk State picked up 15 of a possible 16 first-place votes in being named the preseason favorite, while the Eagles of NCCU picked up the other first-place vote in being picked to finish second. Howard and Morgan State were picked to finish third and fourth, respectively.
Coppin State, Maryland Eastern Shore, Delaware State and South Carolina State rounded out the predicted order of finish.
