ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State softball team provided a solid effort over the weekend in the MEAC North/South Round-up.
Eight teams around the MEAC which included Howard, Coppin State, Norfolk State, Delaware State, Morgan State, North Carolina Central, N.C. A&T State and host South Carolina State in a three-day event held at the new Orangeburg Recreation Park.
On day one, the Bulldogs open the round-up on Friday with a 3-2 win over Norfolk State in 10 innings. SC State scored two runs early in the first inning with AJ Jenkins hitting a singled down the right field line, advancing to second base which resulted in a score by
Jade Hendricks scoring the first run.
DeAsia Lowther scored the second run off of a single by
Kat Coe. Norfolk State gained a run in the 3rd and 7th inning when Jazzmaine Hammond scored both off of Alison Guckin. Miranda Gonzalez singled the winning run with one out in the 10
th.
On day two, South Carolina State split 1-1 defeating Morgan State 4-2, while dropping a 2-6 decision to Delaware State. In day three, the Bulldogs dropped tough defeats to Howard 0-13 and Coppin State a to 0-8 to close out play.
The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday (April 21
st) when they travel to Rock Hill, SC to battle non-conference foe Winthrop. First pitch is 2 p.m.
