Bulldogs Remain Perfect In MEAC With Win Over Howard

ORANGEBURG, SC— Defense, came up big once again for the Bulldogs as South Carolina State survived a tough battle, 15-12, over the visiting Howard Bison Saturday (Nov. 6th) at Oliver. C. Dawson Stadium.

Sophomore defensive end Patrick Godbolt had a career day with nine (9) tackles, two (2) sacks for 21-yards, 4 tackles for loss for 25-yards and one force fumble. Redshirt sophomore Jablonski Green added an extra lift on the defensive front with six (6) tackles for loss for 29-yards, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery.

Freshman running back Kendrell Flowers led the ground attack with 23 carries for 58-yards and a touchdown.  Senior wide receiver Will Vereen finished with six (6) catches for 60-yards.

The Bulldogs jumped out to an 12-3 lead off a 30-yard field goal by Gavyn Zimmerman at 6:37 mark in the second half. The Bison managed to get on the board with 0:12 seconds remaining in the half off a 2-yard pass from Hollingsworth to Antoine Murray to cut the lead 10-12.

Zimmerman connected once again on a 31-yard field goal to push the lead to 15-10. A costly safety by the Bulldogs pulled Howard with a score, but it wasn't enough as South Carolina State held on to a 15-12 victory.

SC State improves to 5-4 overall, 4-0 in the MEAC to remain in 1st of the league race, while Howard drops to 2-7 overall, 1-3 in the league.

Next up South Carolina State host N.C. A&T State in a non-conference matchup Saturday, Nov. 13th at Oliver. C. Dawson Stadium/Willie Jeffries Field. Kickoff is 1:30 p.m.
