ITTA BENA, Miss. – The South Carolina State women's soccer team suffered a tough setback in an 3-2 defeat to Mississippi Valley State Friday (Sept. 2).
MSVU got on the board first after Kristien Lindo struck a free kick in the 19
th minute to put the home team ahead 1-0.
South Carolina State fired 14 shots at the Devilette goalkeeper McKenzie McCarthy, despite Mississippi Valley State taking an 1-0 lead during intermission.
During the second-half the Lady Bulldogs turned things around breaking through the Valley defense off a shot by senior
Tamika Aguilar in the back net at the 46
th minute mark. SCSU took a 2-1 lead later off a score by junior
Elizabeth McGee 10 minutes later (2
nd goal of the year).
Mississippi State rallied from behind late during the 66
th minute off a score by Ronia Pierre-Louis and an assist by Beatriz Kretteis at the top of the cross bar. Kretties nailed the game winner 10 minutes with an an assist by Cielo Mazantini.
South Carolina State returns to action on Sunday (Sept. 8
th) when they take on Alcorn State in a 7 p.m., showdown.
