LANDOVER, MD – SC State junior Breana Tyler finished second in the women's long jump Thursday at the MEAC Indoor Track and Field Championships with a leap of 5.83 meters, a personal record and her best-ever performance in the event. Only four events were completed Thursday.

Tim Langford's squads on were Orangeburg sophomore Daniel Seawright, who finished third in the men's long jump with a leap of 7.26 meters, and freshman Tyler Duncan, who was 12th in the 5000 meters (16:28.34.).
Senior sprinter Tyrell Richard false-started in the 200 meters, but still has a chance to earn points for his squad as he will compete in both the 400 meters, where he owns the top time (45.39) and the 60 meters, where he is tied for second (6.70), entering the three-day championship which culminates Saturday.

NSU & B-CU MEN, FAMU WOMEN LEAD AFTER DAY ONE OF MEAC INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
LANDOVER, Md., —After the first day of the 2019 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday, the Bethune-Cookman and Norfolk State men and Florida A&M women lead their respective standings.
Norfolk State and Bethune-Cookman are tied atop the men's standings with 23 points each. North Carolina A&T State is close behind in third with 20 points.
The FAMU women have 25 points to sit atop the standings, seven points ahead of Bethune-Cookman. South Carolina State, with eight points, is third.
Defending champion North Carolina A&T State got off to a strong start on Thursday, as freshman Regan Kimtai – who finished second in the cross country championship meet back in October – took gold in the men's 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:02.85.
On the women's side, Florida A&M's Emmax Kiplagat ran a 17:40.63 to defend her MEAC title in the 5,000 meters.
The Aggies' Brandon Hicklin was another freshman winning a MEAC title on Thursday, taking the men's long jump gold medal after leaping 7.47 meters (24 feet, 6.25 inches). Monae Nichols of Bethune-Cookman wom the women's long jump at 6.00 meters (19 feet, 8.75 inches).
Kayla White of North Carolina A&T State, who leads the world in the 200-meter dash, posted the fastest time in the preliminary heats on Thursday, turning in a 23.88. Of the eight finalists who will run on Saturday, six of them are Aggies.
The Aggies showed similar strength in the men's 200-meter prelims; Trevor Stewart paced the field with a 21.63. Four of the eight finalists hail from North Carolina A&T State.
The 2019 MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championships resume on Friday at 9 a.m. with a resumption of the men's heptathlon. The women's pentathlon will start at 9:20 a.m. The first running event, the prelims of the women's 60-meter hurdles, will start at 12 p.m.
