ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State sprinter Demek Kemp won the 100 meters in a school-record time of 10.15 to lead a strong outing by the SCSU track teams Saturday at the 24-team USC Open, hosted by the Gamecocks. Overall, the SCSU men recorded 12 top 10 finishes, while the Lady Bulldogs had five top 10 showings.
Kemp, the MEAC indoor champion in the 60 meters and the bronze medalist in the event at the NCAA Indoor championship, edged Gamecock heralded sprinter Ncincilili Titi (10.16) in the 100 meters. Kemp teammate Tyrell Richard was third in a time of 10.39. SCSU was also impressive in the 200 meters with Kemp finishing second (20.55) and Richard third (20.65) behind Titi.

th in the 110-meter hurdles (14.22); the men's 4x400-meter relay team of Kameron Hammond, Richard, Kemp and Jones, 6

th in the shot put (13.95m); Jeff McReynolds, 7
th in the javelin (45.26m); Tillman Richards, 8
th in the triple jump (13.55m); Britt, 8
th in the discus (42.28m); and Crosby 10
th in the 100 meters (12.29).
Kemp and Richard were among eight SC State performers establishing personal records (PRs) at the event. Both marks in the 100 meters and 200 meters were PRs for the Bulldog duo. Others with PRs included Crosby in the 200 meters (25.09), Dubose in the 200 (25.16), Richards in the triple jump (13.55m), Ayrionne Gillespie in the 100 (12.81), and Michael Stackhouse in the 1500 (4:15.93).
SC State will be idle this weekend before traveling to Greensboro May 3-5 for the MEAC Outdoor Championship at North Carolina A&T's Irwin Belk Track Complex.
